Tales From ECCC: Bruce Timm And The Cancellation Of The Green Lantern
Animated Series
by Rich Johnston
At ECCC, a number of anonymous Little Bleeders talked to a number of
professionals. And this is what we learned.
"Bruce Timm, like many of us, was disappointed with Cartoon Network s
decision to not pick-up Green Lantern the Animated Series for second
season since he said it was one the best things he s ever worked on,
and considering his career, that s saying something. Anyway, I asked
if it really came to down to the lack of merchandising sales, as
Bleeding Cool had previously reported regarding Young Justice. He said
yes. Since the Ryan Reynolds film, retailers were stuck with film
merchandise that just wasn t selling. This lead to those retailers
being very reluctant, if not downright refusing, to any carry
merchandise from the Animated Series. Therefore, a lack of sales on
that front lead to a lack revenue for an admittedly expensive CG
Series."

That's the problem with CN, they think that with action shows they can
get a toy company to produce merchandise, they are not gonna call them
so they can make toys of the show. if they want it so bad then first
get the toys then do the show.
Anyway this is just ridiculous, it's clear they need to give the show
time to get an audience, if they are just going "No toys? No new
episodes then" they should learn from Nick with Korra that without
merchandise is doing well at the ratings, that's what Nick cares and
with CN cares for merchandise since it's the key for a show's survival
BUT if we don't see DVDs, toys or other type of merchandise of the
shows how can they want people to buy stuff if they are not letting
them have any? Probably this is unrelated and might be mistaken but
hopefully the one that will be in charge on CN will try to fix things
up with cartoons since what i heard she's an expert on that area
unlike the others who see it as a business 100% and not taking any
risk.
